  • Messier Marathon 2026

I participated in the annual Messier marathon event, from March 21st to March 22nd. The Messier marathon is a stargazing challenge to hunt down all 110 celestial objects in the Messier catalogue in a night. In Korea, a dozen stargazers gather each year in the rural area of Hoengseong county, staying up through the night. I knew of the event some time ago, but it was my first time participating.

  • The Decline of Firefox Should Concern Everyone

Thousands of tech community posts proclaim “what’s all the Chromium hate about, when it’s open source, fast, and industry-standard?” It is a fair question with a valid point, one that even die-hard Firefox users find hard to attack.

  • HMMT February 2026

From February 13-17th, I attended the 2026 Harvard-MIT Mathematics Tournament (HMMT). I was part of the Korean team organized by KGSEA, and had a great experience during the five days on MIT campus.

  • Genghis Khan and the Making of the Modern World, Jack Weatherford

Weatherford’s 2004 book Genghis Khan and the Making of the Modern World lays out the history of the Mongol Empire and its legacy states. The book remains an acclaimed steady-seller two decades after its writing, a feat especially difficult for a history book.

  • On uv

uv, the next-generation python package manager. I first tried it out a few days ago, mostly out of frustration regarding pip. I made the mistake (or rather, my brew dependency made the mistake) of downloading homebrew python, and pip refused to update packages due to an external installation.

  • A Bird's-Eye-View of the Lebesgue Integral

I discovered the world of measure theory and the Lebesgue (pronounced la-BEG) integral, when I was told that some functions cannot be integrated with Riemann sums. A more general integral, which has Riemann integrals as its subset, goes down an incredibly deep rabbit hole in the study of the reals.

  • Clouds, Moon, and a Lesson

On December 6th I visited Geumsan-gun, the southern tip of Chungcheong province. Staying at my grandmother’s place, I planned an ambitious stargazing session, expecting crystal clear weather from the forecast.

  • Baby Steps in Understanding the Elliptic Curve

The area of an ellipse is given by $\pi a b$, where a and b are half-width and half-height – straightforward enough. But what about the arc length of an ellipse? Faced with a problem infinitely more complex than that of a circle, here mathematicians’ problems begin.

  • Custom MicroGNUEmacs Fork

MicroGNUEmacs (or mg) has recently replaced Emacs as my primary code editor. The actively maintained editor is a haven for editor minimalists.

  • Chuncheon Marathon 2025

One of Korea’s oldest, largest, and most prestigious marathons is held in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province. This year I returned since last participating in 2019.

  • Pacman! (with WebAssembly)

I made this simple pacman clone nearly three years ago, when I was still a novice python programmer.
